Millwey Rise held at Offwell Rangers

Millwey Rise played out a 0-0 draw on their visit to Offwell Rangers for a midweek evening Macron League Division Five game, writes Dick Sturch.
Although the pitch did neither side any favours an obdurate defence and capable keeper, together with some woeful finishing, ensured Offwell secured a deserved draw – their first point of the season!
Millwey mounted attack after attack, but never really clicked. Jack Farrant came close a couple of times and Mark Pike fired a firm volley just over.
The home side did get the ball in the net, but the effort was ruled offside, but for most of the half they mounted an effective rearguard action with their keeper holding every shot Millwey could muster.
The second period was really a replay of what went before! Sam Waddon was replaced by Shane Featherstone as Millwey kept pressing.
A Sam Turner effort flew just over the bar. Nathan Womersley was put through but his close range shot was saved by the keeper who was kept busy throughout the game. Jack Bennett in the Millwey goal was rarely called into action as his defenders dealt with most of the attacks.
The game did get a little feisty when one or two rash tackles caused a little hot headedness, but in the end Offwell were good value for their draw.
Millwey Rise are back in action on Thursday night when they visit Elmore for a Football Express Cup tie being played under the Horsdon Park floodlights (7.30pm).
