Offwell Rangers out of county cup despite Kayes best efforts

Offwell Rangers were knocked out of the Devon Intermediate Cup, beaten 3-1 by fellow Fresha League Division Seven side Winchester.

Rangers took a first half lead with a goal from Daniel Williams, but failed to make their clear dominance pay and spurned a number of other chances to increase their advantage.

The game continued in similar fashion after the break as Rangers, without a number of regulars, produced the goods all the way up to the final third where finishing was the problem.

Once again the 70th minute arrived and a significant drop-off in tempo followed to such a degree that the opposition took charge, scoring three times in what was left of the game to end the Rangers interest in the county competition.

Boss Scott Phillips cut a frustrated figure post match as he lamented: “Once again we have been the masters of our own downfall and its beginning to wear a bit thin. It’s something we need to address, and quickly, this apparent inability to take chances followed by someone switching the lights out after 70 minutes so that all the previous hard work in the game is thrown away and we allow ourselves to be undone.”

Match sponsors Tip Top Trees selected Ben Kayes as the Rangers Man of the Match.

On Saturday Rangers return to league action with a home game against Pinhoe.
