Spence goal seals Honiton Under-11 win over Twyford Gladiators

Honiton Town 3, Twyford Gladiators 2

Honiton Town Under-11s were good value for all three points from their latest Exeter and District Youth League game.

The youngsters showed no signs of rustiness given that they had been out of action for a month and started brightly enjoying the majority of possession. Several opportunities were created in the first half, but Honiton found the Twyford keeper difficult to beat until Will Whitworth broke the deadlock with a fine header. Unfortunately, Honiton then lost their concentration and a failure to deal with a long clearance allowed Twyford to level before the interval. The second period saw both sides competing well and the game shifted from end-to-end on a regular basis until Honiton regained the lead with Caleb Freemantle applying a coo finish to a good team move.

The home side then extended their advantage through a Ben Spence goal and, despite a second from the visitors, Honiton closed the game out well. Jack Hawker deserves special praise for a last-ditch goal-line clearance when the score was 2-1 in his teams favour. James Cairns made a confident debut for Honiton.
