Axminster Town are in action tonight (Wednesday) when they host Ilfracombe Town at Tiger Way (7.30pm).

It’ll be a third match in five days for the Tigers who won 2-1 at Torridgeside on Monday night, this after a splendid 4-1 success at Mountbatten Park, Honiton, in Saturday’s East Devon derby.

That win at Honiton Town came off the back of a brace of goals from Tony Pinder and one each from Kieran Daniels and Aaron Daniels.

Monday night’s win at Torridgeside came as a result of goals from Sam Dibling and Charlie Skelton.

The back-to-back league wins were welcome relief for the Town faithful after their side had been without a win in four. Indeed they went into the derby at Mountbatten Park having lost three on the spin, beaten at home by Budleigh and title-chasing Newton Abbot Spurs and away at Appledore.

The game at Honiton rounded off this season’s South West Peninsula League (SWPL) Eastern Division, East Devon derby term.

With four local sides: Honiton Town, Axminster Town, Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton all playing each other home and away during the league season it is Budleigh who have come out on top with four wins and two draws.

Axminster Town have come ‘second’ with two wins, three draws and just the one defeat – 1-0 at home to Budleigh.

Honiton Town, with two wins, a draw and three defeats, finish ‘third’ and rock bottom, in terms of the four clubs from East Devon, are Sidmouth who failed to win any of the East Devon derbies – drawing two and losing four.
