Upottery claimed top spot in Fresha League Division Two thanks to a 3-0 win at Crediton United Reserves.

With leading scorer Steve Moirris out for the rest of the season and his replacement, Jason Kennard, injured in the midweek 2-1 home win over Hemyock, it meant a central striking berth for Max McKewan who is more usually seen on the right wing for the villagers.

McKewan was outstanding and scored two of the goals, netting one in each half and the scoring was completed by James Girton.

The win lifts the villagers above University on goal difference and both teams have six to play including what looks a title decider at Upottery’s Glebe Park home on Saturday, April 25.

The first of the final six games for Upottery is tonight (Wednesday) when they play a swift return with neighbours Hemyock.

Boss Dan Prettejohn, who used to manage Hemyock, says: “It sounds easy enough when you say win the last six and you are champions. However, the nerves set in now and we are going to have to be prepared to scrap for everything if we do indeed want to lift the title.”
