Upottery made it three wins from three home games this season with a 4-1 defeat of Crediton United Reserves.

The villagers fell behind to a goal that boss Dan Prettejohn described as: “Disappointingly sloppy! We are better than that and, on another day, might have paid a heavy price for such sloppiness.”

Stung into action parity was swiftly restored when Joe Jones scored and Jones bagged a second soon after to fire Upottery into the lead. When the outstanding Max McKewan was hauled down in the area Steve Morris stroked home the resultant penalty kick to send the villagers into the beak with 3-1 advantage.

There was just one goal added in the second half with former Honiton Town player Sam Farmer netting. The match sponsors, Sampsons Services opted for central midfield player Dan Scadden to receive their Man of the Match award.

Prettejohn said of the win: “It was a good response after falling behind. However, I am keen for us to observe high standards and, as such, we need to guard against this sort of thing happening again. I am sure the players will note my caution and make sure it proves to be one-off!”

On Saturday Upottery entertain eighth placed Chulmleigh. They go into the game sitting sixth seven points behind leaders University IV who have played two more games.
