Newtown IV 0, Upottery 1

Fresha League Division Three table-toppers Upottery were good value for their latest success, this one at Broadclyst against a useful home side.

The only goal of the game was scored in the 68th minute when a fine cross from midfielder Joe Jones was headed powerfully home by skipper Mark Tucker.

There were a number of excellent individual performances, none more so than the one of Dave Sawyer, whilst fellow central defender Gary Moore, left winger Jason Kennard and striker Sam Winslade also catching the eye.

The win sets up the villagers for this Saturday’s ‘massive’ encounter with the visit of University IV to Glebe Park.

The importance of the game is not lost on Upottery boss Dan Prettejohn who says: “This is D-day time for us. Stand and deliver is my message to my team and I hope and pray we can get a good crowd into Glebe Park. We are unbeaten at home this season so far and to beat a quality side like University would be the icing on the cake in a fine season so far. We need our supporters more than ever for this big game.”
