Upottery 7, Winkleigh 1

Upottery finally found some real home form as they powered to victory over relegation threatened Winkleigh.

The hallmark of the win, only their sixth Fresha League Division Three success on home soil this season, was a superb second half show when they proved too hot to handle for the North Devon visitors.

Leading 2-0 at the break, they were stung into action when Winkleigh halved the deficit early in the second half.

They stepped up a couple of gears and scored a nap hand of goals to end emphatic winners.

Mark Tucker (2), Chas Lane (2), Danny Symons (2) and Mark Symons were the scorers.

On the bench for the villagers was Aaron Doble and his presence was explained by boss Dan Prettejohn who said: “Aaron rang me late morning to say that as Axminster were unable to raise a team he was available to turn out for us. It’s great that a player of his ability wants to be involved with us, that gives everybody a lift.”

Upottery, who were in action again on Monday night when they made the short trip to Offwell Rangers, are on the road again on Saturday when they go to Winkleigh for a swift return.
