Upottery opened their Fresha League Division Three campaign with a superb all-round show that proved too hot to handle for the visiting side.

It was a day for the villager’s new signings to make instant impressions. Summer signing Aaron Lake, who last years was playing in the Taunton League, bagged a brace and there were debut goals also for former Dunkeswell hit-man Steve Morris and another player plucked fro the Taunton League, Sam Scadden.

Brad Spiller was the other Upottery scorer.

The victors also had an impressive performance from Stewart Coombes who has returned to the cub after a spell at Awliscombe.

In what was the ideal opening day performance there was a clean sheet for keeper Dan Trevisic.

Upottery boss Dan Prettejohn said: “It was all very pleasing. We have been able to ut together a useful collection of players this summer and I am expecting a good season from them. If we can keep everybody fit and availability is not an issue then I feel we are certainly good enough to target a promotion berth.”

The villagers were back in action last night (Tuesday), playing a derby game with Hemyock and on Saturday they entertain Woodbury.
