Seaton Town simply cannot not scoring goals and slammed another seven in against a visiting side who had not shipped more than four in any game previously this term.
Cameron Vere led the scoring honours with a four goal haul which left Town boss Josh Stunell saying: “It was a classic display from Cameron who was on fire and proved a handful every time he got the ball. His finishing was clinical and, had any body been at Colyford Road from a higher level, then I am sure they will have been impressed and no doubt my phone will ring in the next few days!”
Vere was joined in the scoring stakes by his two fellow strikers as Ben Ede bagged a brace and Josh French also netted. That’s sixty goals in a dozen home games this term with Town winning them all. They did ship another three, but Stunell is not too disappointed with that. He said: “We have actually tightened up quite well at the back in recent games and don’t seem to get the rub of the green in defensive situations. That said everybody in the team is working very hard at their game, we defend as a team, and attack as one and it’s a fact that from keeper to front-man, the lads are all putting consistent shifts in week on week.”
Town always led by at least two goals in the contest and went into the break with a 3-1 advantage. It was not all one-way though, and Dave Perham made a number of splendid saves to deny the visitors further goals.
Next up for Town are back to back meetings with Exeter University beginning with this Saturday’s game at Colyford Road.
University have won just twice on the road this season, claiming the points at both Willand Rovers and Budleigh Salterton.
St Martins were also winners on Saturday and they remain the biggest threat to Towns hopes of securing the title and heading up into the South West Peninsula league.
