Honiton Town Under-11s entertained Ottery St Mary in the opening game of the Exeter and District Youth League season.

Playing for the first time in the nine-versus-nine format and with bigger goals the Honiton side began brightly with some crisp passing.

The deadlock was broken when Caleb Freemantle netted with the assist accredited to Dan Loosemore.

Five minutes later the lead was doubled when Ben Spence fired home after a fine run. With goalkeeper Oliver Turl making some excellent saves and a brave block from Devon Walcott keeping the visitors at bay, Honiton maintained their two goal advantage to the break.

The second half saw Ottery raise the tempo and manage to draw level with two breakaway goals and this was followed by both sides creating chances as they chased the win. Another smart save from the excellent Turl kept the scores level. With time running out a superb pass from Matthew Ward released Freemantle to calmly slot his second to seal a 3-2 victory.
