THE weather savaged the Devon and Exeter League programme with all but three matches surviving and two of those were played at the same venue!

The University in Exeter managed to get two of the games played and the only other ground to stage a match was Furzebrake, Beer, which hosted the Fishermen's Reserve team game against UAU Exeter.

Beer made the most of having the spotlight firmly on them as they romped to a 7-1 victory.

Mind you, the hosts did find themselves playing an opposition of 10 men, for some of their squad had seen the weather in the morning and decided there was no chance of the game being played, thus not turning up.

Those that did take to the pitch found the light blues in red hot form, with Justin Adkin netting a treble and the other Fishermen to score were Rob Adkin, Rex Kirby, James Webber and James Melville.

Beer take a fortnight's break from League action before returning with the December 6 visit of Silverton.

In the Premier Division there was not a single ball kicked in anger. Feniton, who sit 15th having won just one of their nine top flight outings to date, entertain Clyst Valley on Saturday. The Blues last won on August 25, when they defeated Alphington 3-1, and the only other game they have not been beaten in was a 3-3 draw with Newtown.

In Division One, the cancellations are the only thing to cause concern at Seaton Town who have yet to drop a point in their League programme but who have played just five times so far.

This coming weekend they are again not in league action when they host Morchard Bishop in the East Devon Senior Cup.

Beer Albion currently sit fourth in the table and sport one of the best defensive records in the section - they have conceded just seven in their eight outings to date. They travel to bottom of the table Culm United on Saturday.

In Division Two, Honiton Town travel to second-from-bottom Dawlish. With just one defeat to date in their League campaign, that a September 26 2-1 loss at Tipton St John - who they beat a couple of weeks later - will be looking to boost their promotion bid.

In the same section, Axminster Town Reserves, who are seventh, travel to Tipton St John for an East Devon derby where they will come up against former Exeter City striker Steve Flack. Upottery, currently bottom of the table, will be seeking to claim a first win of the season when they travel to Mid Devon to meet a Westexe Rovers side who, if they are defeated, will end the day below the villagers in the table.

There is no league action for Colyton, who have made such a fine start to their Division Three campaign with five wins from their first six outings. On Saturday they turn their attention to the Bill Slee Cup and a home meeting with Witheridge Reserves.

In Division Four, Offwell Rangers put their unbeaten start to the season on the line when they stage an East Devon derby against visiting Seaton Town Reserves.

There's some respite from what has, so far at least, been a miserable campaign for Dunkeswell Rovers when they put aside their Division Five record of played six and lost six to take on hosts Thorverton Reserves in the Football Express Cup 2nd round.

In the same competition, Feniton Reserves will be another side looking to set aside poor league form with cup victory, they travel to AFC Sidford.

Awliscombe have made a strong start to their Division Six campaign and, five games in, remain unbeaten.

In the same section, Axmouth United find themselves at the opposite end of the table with just the one win in five starts, their only success being an October 10, 4-2 home win over Cheriton Fitzpaine.

In Division Seven, Honiton Town Reserves, who sit fifth in the table, are at home to Bampton in a Geary Cup 2nd Round tie on Saturday.

Feniton 3rds, who sit fifth in Division Nine, have home advantage this Saturday for the visit of Tedburn St Mary Reserves and, in the same section, Colyton Reserves will look to improve their sixth spot when they visit Cheriton Fitzpaine. Away from League duty, Seaton 3rds have a Geary Cup tie at Halwill.

l In the PERRY STREET LEAGUE only one local match took place, Farway United beating Combe B away 3-2 in the Reg Eglon Cup, writes Lee Glanville.

Farway put in a good performance and were 2-0 up by half time and 3-0 up before conceding two penalties.

They held on in the closing stages for the win. Goals were scored by Chris Legg, 2, and Darren Cooke. Man of the Match was Graham Barton.
