Halwill 1, Honiton Town 2 Town moved up to sixth with a fifth win in eight Division Two games and completed a season’s double over the hosts who had only been beaten once at home this term.

All three goals came in the second half which proved to be a much better watch than the scrappy first half! The lively Tim Genders fired Town into the lead only for the hosts to restore parity from a corner. Genders then netted his second to seal victory. Town boss Kev Blackwell said: “The first half was poor and we had a frank discussion at the break where I urged the players to forget any headlines they might have been reading about their cup exploits and reminded them that the league is the bread and butter for all footballers at any level. Thankfully they responded in really good style and then second half performance was much better and we fully deserved to bag the points. For me the most pleasing thing about a win at Halwill which is a tough place to go, is that we are proving now that no matter the sort of game or opposition, we clearly have the wherewithal to get a job done.”

On Saturday Town play their Firewatch Devon Senior Cup semi-final with a Tiverton Town Reserves side who ply their trade a Division higher in the Fresha League. Blackwell says: “We’ll train hard this week and make sure we prepare well. The cup run so far has not seen us worry about what the opposition may, or may not, have. It’s been all about us and getting our game right and I see no reason for that to change as it’s a semi-final. It’s a huge game, but we have the players to both cope with the occasion and still, deliver the goods.”
