Next Sunday, March 16, sees Sainsbury Sport Relief events hit the streets of Honiton with a bang. Honiton will be the place to be for Sport Relief. Whether you are doing the one, three or six mile event you are guaranteed a fantastic welcome. The runners will join hundreds of thousands of others across the country in a nationwide televised event to make a difference to the lives of thousands of vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives, both at home in the UK and across the world's poorest countries.Sport Relief's allocation of places for the Sainsbury's Honiton Mile was smashed last week and it has now been doubled to satisfy demand. It's up to the people of Honiton and East Devon to rise to the challenge which has been laid before them by the Sport Relief organisers and fill the event to capacity and beyond. Those who have already entered online after last Monday may have to pick up their numbers at registration at the Sports Centre. But entries will be available on the day at Honiton Sports Centre so you don't have to miss out on this great event. Don't find out the day after at school or work that you missed a fantastic day. But make sure that you come before 10am if you want to enter late or pick up your number so that you have enough time. The day starts at the Sports Centre at 10am with the Honiton Twirlstars giving a display followed by a mass warm-up for the one mile event by Honiton aerobics instructor Vladka. The mile start is at 10.30am in the High Street by Clapper Lane and will be helped on its way by the beat of Manor School Taiko Drum Band and a local Ceilidh band. There will be face painting at the sports centre before the mile event and at the New Street finish area. There may also be a magician and a bouncy castle. So make sure that you bring your youngsters along. There will be goody bags and water at the finish for all competitors but make sure that you also make a special effort to cheer everyone around the course and across the line. The three and six mile events are kicked off at 11am with a second display by the Twirlstars at the sports centre, followed again by the mass warmup. The start will be at 11.30am, again in the High Street by Clapper Lane. There will be a street collection for the Sport Relief charity by the organisers of the event, Honiton Running Club. So what are you waiting for? Get down to Honiton Sports Centre on Sunday and join the fun.
