This weekend produced exceptional conditions for some cross-country flights and individual achievements at North Hill airfield, writes Jill Harmer.

Ed Dark from Exmouth, flying a single-seater glider for the first time, was able to soar for an hour.

Pete Startup from Ottery St Mary completed yet another 300km flight, this time to Wantage in Oxfordshire and Chippenham in Gloucestershire.

Henry Ford from Exeter completed his longest flight to date; 200km covering Wiltshire and Dorset and Liam Vile from Exeter University and James Hood from Plymouth both flew 100km in their private gliders round the standard club task.

After the tragic accident on Wednesday, the club opened up on Friday as Ernie would have wished. Ernie was a much liked member of the Club and our thoughts are with his family.

Colleagues from UTC Aerospace enjoyed an afternoon and evening of glorious weather for Introductory Flights.

The summer solstice was marked by flights during sunrise and sunset, a group of our younger members enjoyed watching the sun rise and set from overhead North Hill airfield in a glider.
