Honiton Seniors contested the Veterans Cup this week, which is a medal competition off the white tees.

53 members took part in what appeared to be perfect conditions, lovely weather with plenty of run on the ball, but the expected low scores did not materialise, indeed many players seemed to struggle.

The eventual winner of the trophy was Larry Goodliffe with a nett score of 67, which also saw him winning Division 2. Alan Devenny, Stan Squire and Rob Sexton were close on his heels with 68, Alan and Stan coming first and second in Division 1. Rob was Division 2 runner-up.

Honiton Ladies took part in this week's Lady Captains Prize competition. The perfect playing conditions resulted in some very good scores.

The overall winner and taking possession of the Lady Captain’s Prize was Cathy Williams, scoring 41 points. Winner of Division 1 was Cathy Pawley 40, 2nd Ann Trayling 39, 3rd Sue Kelson 38. Division 2: 1st Cathy Williams 41, 2nd Janet Higgins 40, 3rd Chris Pearce 37. Eight ladies played in the 9-hole competition, 1st Linda Curtis 26, 2nd Carole Booth 19.

There were 30 players taking part in this week's Tuesday Mixed. The format was an American Greensomes, where both players drive and then each play a second shot with their partner's drive. They then select one ball and continue playing alternate shots.

The warm, muggy weather did not prevent there being some excellent scores and the first two places had to be decided on countback. With an overall score of 48 points and a back nine of 26, it was Maureen Lawrence and Mick Swann who took first place. Linda and Steve Blundell came second with a back nine of 23. Third place went to Sheila Palmer and Rob Grove with 47 points.

On Sunday, an integrated pairs comp took place in the Stableford format with one score to count. With a great score of 45 to secure victory were Derek Richards and Dave McGrath, taking second place with 41 points was Jim Wallis and Jon Kane, beating on countback into third, Stan Squire and John Fleetwood.
