The past fortnight has once again been a busy time for the club. The ladies have been competing in both the Grace Matthews county top club and the county fours competitions. The Grace Matthews five discipline encounter resulted in a narrow 3-2 win over Sidmouth ladies. Honiton took the early honours with wins by Rosemary Hirons 17-7 in the two wood singles and Carole Fisher 21-20 in a very closely contested four wood singles. A 13-16 defeat for Yvonne Rayner/Ann Hillyear/Dulcie Broughton in the triples saw Sidmouth back in the match and, despite another win for Sidmouth against Rita Barwick/Shirley Hiscocks in the pairs, victory was ensured for Honiton when Lynda Dommett/Brenda Harris/Joan Heard/Sue Evans prevailed in the fours. In the county fours the best result came from Dulcie Broughton/Carole Fisher/Joan Heard/Sue Evans reaching the quarter finals before being narrowly beaten. The men played their second game in the national two fours and were soundly beaten by a very strong and talented Shaldon side who all produced quality bowling.News was better for the men when they defeated Sidmouth 90-72 in the county trophy. Wins for the away rinks of Fred Cowey/Alan Nex/Wally Heard/Roger Binmore 24-14 and Tony Tooley/Don Russell/George Selvey/Denis Hillyear 27-16 laid the foundations. At home Richard Wakeley/Peter Baker Baker/Ken Large/Trevor Pipe snatched a last gasp one shot win and the only defeat was suffered by Chris Stone/Bill Sheerman/Eddie Sharman/Steve Dommett. The O60s league matches resulted in defeat for Honiton A 28-33 v Okehampton (skips Alan Nex won 18-10, John Lyon lost 10-23), wins for Honiton B 32-28 v Exonia C (skips Ken Clarke lost 13-17, Mike Critchley won 19-11) and Honiton C 31-25 v Marina B (skips Ken Large won 17-10, George Selvey lost 14-15).
