Honiton GC Ladies’ Section held the Daily Mail Foursomes Qualifying Competition. In first place were lady vice-captain Jackie Seager and Henrietta Bradshaw, with 31pts.

Second were Diana Gee and Elizabeth Davies on 30pts and third, on count back, Sharon Dacre and Catherine Doherty 29pts. Fourth, losing out on count back, were Elizabeth Ward and Jan Portlock.

●Seniors Section: Of the teams of three, each representing the area in which they reside, it was Vic Wood, Pat Purtell and Rob Sexton in the guise of the "Seaton Seniors" who stormed into first place in the Texas Scramble, with an impressive nett score of 60.1 leaving the rest trailing in their wake. In second place were Jim Wallis, John Hill and Keith Crane as "Offwell and Farway" with 62.1, followed by Jack Phillips, Brian Hoepelman and Bill Eaton, the "Late Entries", with 62.7, leaving the "County Cards" of Harold Cook, Norman Fleet and Mike Stroud to take the final berth with 62.8. Only four twos were recorded, two of which fell to John Dickinson who won 36 golf balls.

●The return leg of the annual match with Exeter Golf and Country Club, with the Stan Parker Trophy at stake and Honiton trailing by one game from the away leg, required a good performance to retain the trophy.

A 4-2 victory for Honiton saw the trophy remain in their cabinet for a further year.
