Another busy week for Seaton Bowling Club began with an East of Exe League game on Monday against Hemyock. Seaton won 78 to 47, top rink being that of Angie Mayhew, Stephen Potter, Mike McAlpine and Roger Woolland, winning 30 - 6 and this win put Seaton at the top of the league.
On Tuesday, Seaton travelled to Phear Park to play triples, in this game, played in pleasant surroundings, the honours were even, Seaton winning 2 games and Phear Park 2, but Phear Park won overall.
On Wednesday, both LOFTL teams were in action for Seaton, Seaton Blue Team playing Sidmouth Blue, at home. Seaton were the winners by 66 - 18, top rink being Carol Armitage, Maria Johnson and Pat Whitworth with a score of 38-11. The Red team of ladies from Seaton travelled to Crediton and it was a really tight game, both rinks taking it to the last wood as on the last end both of our teams were drawing. Seaton won by just two shots, top rink was that of Hilary Sunderland, Ann Joyner and Ruby Grigg winning 20 – 17.
Seaton OSTL were also playing on Wednesday, Seaton A played Madeira A at home and won 41 – 27, Seaton B played Madeira B, losing overall and Seaton C team played Ottery, also losing overall.
On Thursday, 3 ladies from Seaton were invited to Lady Captain Day at Lyme Regis, to play in a triples competition with teams from around the area, including Dorchester.
Our Seaton ladies triples team of Chris Barradell, Ruby Grigg and Lilian Hurley-Smith won the competition and were presented with the Rose Bowl. Our ladies enjoyed the afternoon including the lovely tea provided after the game.
On Thursday evening, the final East of Exe game of the season was played at Seaton. Visitors were Ottery St Mary. Seaton won overall in a close game with a final score of 69 to 66. Top rink was that of Carol Armitage, Peter Newton, Mike McAlpine and Roger Woolland.
The week finished on Sunday with three Seaton Ladies, Lilian Hurley-Smith, Chris Barradell and Pat Whitworth, playing in the quarter finals of the Devon Benevolent Triples Competition on our home green against a ladies triples from Okehampton. Seaton ladies had a resounding win of 22 – 8 and now go through to the semi finals to be played at Crediton in September.
