It was another successful weekend for members of Chard and District Swimming Club who competed in the Somerset ASA Swimming Age Group & Championships at Millfield Pool, Street.

Three Chard Swimmers were crowned Somerset ASA 2011 Champions, Daniel Walker (14) in the 200m Breaststroke, Jake Hallam (15) in the 400 Individual Medley and Luke Lawrence (21) in the 100m Freestyle. Daniel also won the Junior Boy’s Championship Trophy, with Jake winning the 400m Individual Medley and 100m Butterfly Junior Boys Championship Trophies.

Jake won both the men’s open and junior boys championship title for the 400m I/M in a SWRQT time of 4.51.59 improving on his Open Club record. He was runner up in both the men’s open and junior boys 200m Breaststroke Championship where he obtained a SWRQT of 2.37.39. Jake was fifth in the 100m men’s butterfly championship final and then swam the 15/16 yrs 100m butterfly youth final winning the junior boys championship trophy with a SWRQT of 1.00.70. Whilst swimming the 100m Freestyle, he secured a debut SW Consideration time (SWC) of 56.89, finishing eighth in the heat and sixth in the 15/16 yrs youth Final.

The boys formed part of the 4x50m open medley relay alongside Luke van den Barselaar and finished second. They were joined by Jack Fish in the 4x50m freestyle relay and earned a bronze medal.

Abigail Dare, 14, clocked SWRQTs in the 200m backstroke (2.34.37) and 400m I/M (5.31.38) the latter breaking both the 14yrs & under and open club records. In the 100m breaststroke and 100m freestyle, she obtained two SWC times - 1.23.92 (100m Breaststroke) and 1.04.04 (100m Freestyle.)

Lauren Harrison, 13, and Hannah Pullinger, 15, achieved two SWCs. Lauren in the 200m backstroke (2.42.05) finishing seventh and in the 400m I/M (5.47.41) fifth. She also won the 200m butterfly. Hannah swam a SWC in the 100m breaststroke (1.23.28) and her SWC time of (1.02.95) in the 100m freestyle placed her seventh in the 14/15yrs youth final.

Hannah, and Abi formed half of the girls’ 4x50m open medley Relay team which finished third.

Luke van den Barselaar achieved 4th place and a SWC in the 400m Individual Medley in a time of 5.21.15. He swam the 100m Butterfly, finishing (6th) in the 15/16 yrs Youth Final whilst Leo Kindred 10 (5th) in the 200m Breaststroke for his age group.

Other relay teams were (9-12 yrs girls): Susan Ross, Elisha Hawkins, Daniella Edge, Lauren van den Barselaar who came 7th in the 4x50m Individual Medley and 8th in the 4 x 50 m Freestyle. (9-12 yrs boys): Oliver Bilbie, Charlie Kendall, Jamie Pullinger, Lewis Pearson and Paul Harrison who came 5th in both the 4x50m Individual Medley and 4 x 50m Freestyle. In the Girls Open 4 x50m Freestyle, Madeline Ryder, Jodie Hake, Hannah Pullinger and Abigail Dare finished in 4th place.

Swimmers who also took part were; Leo Kindred, Ryan Adair, ,Lewis Pearson, Charlie Kendall, Iain and Susan Ross, Jamie Pullinger, Bea Brett, Oliver Bilbie, Paul Harrison, Ben Fowler, and Mollie Simpson.
