Green set to be crowned series winner after Moonlit Flit run at Totnes

James Green proved he eats loads of carrots by winning the Moonlit Flit in Totnes on Saturday, writes Dave Mutter.

This was a dusk Half Marathon along a beautiful, but hilly mainly off-road course that Green completed in a time of 1:24. That means, with the full results still to be verified, that the AVR runner is set to be the overall series winner!

Phil Bayliss ventured into the dark recesses of deepest Cornwall and ran along the scenic and undulating roads of Falmouth in the annual Half Marathon race. He was the first over 60 home in an excellent 1:38:05. It was well worth the effort as along with all the other finishers he enjoyed a complimentary pasty and a glass of bubbly. Now all he has to do is pass the border checks back into Devon!

Roger Bramley went in the opposite direction to Phil. He travelled to Wiltshire to run the Longleat Half Marathon in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

It was a cold and early 8.45am start and the course was rather undulating, i.e. not fast, in and around the grounds of Longleat. However, roared on by the lions, and clapped home by the monkeys, he was pleased with his time that spookily mirrored Phil’s in Cornwall of 1:38.

Unfortunately, the first two home in the AVR Junior March handicap, Poppy Tooze and Joe Swann, have not completed enough qualifying runs to count, so victory went to Flo Swann in 13:20 with Ethan Huntley second, 15:10; Rory Dyer, third, 12:29, Stephen Morbey, fourth, 14:24 and Ben Franklin, fifth, 11:44. Swann currently leads the junior rankings with 41 points, followed by Lewis Burridge (36) and Imogen Waterhouse (35).

Canny Hart won the longer senior handicap in 29:02, with Yvette Hill coming second in 30:42. Other places and times were; Simon d’Albertanson, third in 27:30; Gavin Warren, fourth in 27:41 and Clare Hansford, fifth in 24:40.

Clare Hansford has a clear lead in the senior rankings with 58 points, followed by Canny Hart (44) and Yvette Hill (43).
