Dalwood girl Jessica Gundry, 13, is riding high after recently winning the England Youth Championships 2009 in the Under 13 Girls Epee class.

Jessica, of Dalwood, near Axminster, has only been fencing with the epee since January, after two years intense fencing with the foil.

Her win at the championships, held at Hertfordshire Sports Village in Hatfield, follows months of training both at Wellington School, where she is a pupil, and at after-school sessions where she trains four to five times a week.

Earlier in the year she also won gold and bronze medals for epee and foil, in the national Leon Paul Junior Series.
