Harris Tankard goes Rollason’s way

Forty three seniors competed in Friday's Stableford for the Harris Tankard, writes Janet Dack.

Although the breeze got up for the later competitors this did not bother winner Peter Rollason (21) who played in the final group and scored an excellent 43 pts. This was eight strokes better than the runners-up, with second place ocb going to Dave Weston (21) and third to Nick Povey (21). Terry Jessup (20) was the player to miss out. There was only one two, from Tony Strong.

●Ashley Wood were the visitors to Axe Cliff in the 10th anniversary match between the two clubs, competing for the PJ.Trophy, presented by Peter Jakes, a member of both clubs. In fine conditions a close contest ended in victory for Axe Cliff by 4-2, winners now for the third successive year. Winning pairs for Axe Cliff included Peter Knighting/Geoff Hughes, John and Rob Pugh, David Field/Norman Bowles. Half points were won by Roger Wright/Brian Blackwood, Dave Bruce/Mike Jamieson.

The prize for nearest the pin at the 7th. went to Mike Jamieson and at the 13th. in two shots to Colin Gale from Ashley Wood.
