The final round of the Axe Cliff Seniors’ Winter League Programme produced the anticipated close finish, writes Janet Dack.

Needing 36 points to win, the partnership of Rob Heard and Hugh Willis duly obliged winning by one point from early pacemakers Chris Walker and Nick Povey.

The final totals were 212 for the winners and 211 for the runners-up. In third place with 209 points were Terry Jessup and Jack Bannister. On the final day Peter Rollason and Dave Sammons produced the best round of the Winter scoring 42 points.

Second with 38 points were Mick Tomes and Geoff Hubbard, while three teams amassed 37 points.

They were Malcolm Glass and John White, Sid Pember and Neil Moorcraft and also Terry Jessup and Jack Bannister.

There were three two’s with the golfers landing them being Rob Heard, Terry Jessup and Neil Moorcraft
