Normally, we expect "rain stops play" but once in a lifetime we have "sunshine stops play". This week, both the home friendlies for Axminster Bowls Club against Severalls and Bideford were cancelled due to the intense heat, even the men`s over 60`s triples match at home against Heavitree was abandoned after only 12 ends with the visitors just in the lead.
The home friendly against Wellington was played to the end with the hosts winning all four rinks as "Steady Eddie" Backhouse skipped his trio of Phillipa White and club captain David Harris to an outstanding win of 25/6 shots.
Axminster bowling club is a very friendly club, where having a good time is as important as success. If you fancy a try at bowls, please phone Glen Elliott on 07933 517591 to arrange a taster session.
