Honiton Hornets 10, White Eagle 3rds 1

Honiton fielded a strong side at home to White Eagle 3rds, and were not disappointed with four goals in the first half and a further six in the second half, writes Sophie George.

This first goal came in record time for the Hornets as it was scored within the first two minutes. A well-worked series of passes left Amy Phillips with the ball just over the half way line. Vanessa Trude made a great call for the ball as she headed into the circle and met Amy’s pass to score.

Laura Frank was next to score with a strong strike from the edge of the circle. Trude added a further goal scored in much the same way as the first and Katrina Tucker also scored the first of her three before half time with an excellent individual effort using her reverse stick from a fantastic angle.

In the second half, White Eagles managed a great goal of their own but their chances where limited by solid defensive play from Becky Bond, Sue Stone, Vicky Morris and Denise Underhill.

Honiton continued to pass the ball well between midfield and the forward line and had a great many chances. The White Eagles goalkeeper had an excellent game and saved many of the Hornet’s first time shots on goal. In the end though six more goals were scored by Honiton. Amy Phillips worked the ball into the circle on two separate occasions and scored with strong direct first shots. Laura Clark added another with a well placed shot wide of the keeper, Emma Adams’ goal came when the goal keeper was unable to clear the ball from an initial strike and Katrina Tucker added two more, one from excellent individual reverse stick goal from the wide left of the circle. It was a great overall team performance.

Amy Phillips was voted player of the match not only for the individual goals but also for controlling mid field extremely well and ensuring the Hornets attack had lots of opportunities to get the ball into the circle.

Honiton now top Petroc 2 league with a match away to Sidmouth and Ottery 3rds next week who are currently lying in second place.

Honiton continue to practice on Wednesday evenings at Cullompton Sports Centre at 8.30pm until 9.30pm meeting in Honiton at 8pm.
