Hill takes early lead in Axe Cliff seniors’ Masters event

Finally the good weather arrived for the beginning of the annual Masters event for the Axe Cliff seniors, writes Janet Dack.
Like its name-sake in Augusta, it comprises of four rounds of medal play to determine the winner.
It is customary for someone to make a flying start and this year was no exception with Roger Hill (17) returning a fantastic 63 nett to open up a six-stroke lead.
Two players had excellent 69 netts and, on count back second place went to Stuart Mackie (9) with Gerry Turner (11) having to settle for third spot.
Honiton were the visitors to Axe Cliff last Tuesday and a closely fought match ended in a narrow three-and-a-half to two-and-a-half win for the visitors.
The winning pairings for Axe Cliff were Gilbert Cox and Keith Wilson and Malcolm Reynolds and Peter Rollason.
The half point was gained by Rob Heard and John Mant.
