Holyrood Academy hosted the year five/six tag rugby competition for feeder primary schools, with the action taking place at Chard Rugby Club.
Eight teams were at the tournaments, two each from Combe, Redstart and Neroche and one each from Avishayes and Manor Court, and they were divided into two pools with the winners and runners-up progressing through to a semi-final and then a final.
Redstart showed their strength in depth with both their teams competing against one another for the trophy. In an evenly contested final, the score finished six tries apiece.
Thank you to the Holyrood referees Alfred Busby, Warren Bowditch, James Salaman, Harry Clifford, Sam Parker and Seb Horne, who braved the horizontal rain to keep their eyes on the ball!
Simon Jenkins, head of Holyrood’s Rugby Academy, said: “It was a fantastic day of rugby with some exceptional performers from every school.
“Redstart’s Billy White, Luke-Ashley Rolfe and Megan Turnbull certainly impressed the Holyrood referees!
“It is events such as these that bring children in the community together to try new sports, experience a taste of Holyrood life and enjoy a bit of competition.”
