Honiton RFC 1st XV took on Tavistock in the Devon Senior Cup on Sunday, nursing various bruises following Saturday’s brutal game with league leaders Bideford, writes Nick Guilbert.
But Honiton bossed the game from start to finish. The scrum and lineout functioned well all day providing a platform for the onslaught. The Lacemen have been battered on many occasions this season, but they’ve kept their heads up and kept playing and plugging away. Sunday was the reward for the hard work and commitment as they repeatedly kicked the door down of the Tavistock line.
Meadows pulled the strings well and put Hill away for two early scores, either side of a Honiton push over scrum where Rice grabbed the first of two for the day. Hyland hit a good line out wide and drew the last defender for Webber to cross in the top right hand corner.
Garman hit good lines at pace and got his hat-trick for the weekend with two decent scores.
Having played up the slope in the first half Honiton knew there was more to be had in the second half, and good running from the likes of Small and Coutts opened up the away side.

Hyland hit another decent angle, but this time was able to finish the job himself as he gathered the ball on the 10 yard line and weaved through three defenders before dotting down 10 yards right of the posts. Webber continued his good form with the boot converting a number of chances.
A good day in what has been a difficult season.
