Honiton’s second XV recorded their first away victory of the season when they won 14-12 at Cullompton.

Honours were even for the first twenty minutes in what was an end to end game.

Honiton’s Ross Oaten broke the deadlock for the Lacemen when a good scrum form the heavy men allowed the ball to get swung across the backs which released Oaten, he ran in from out wide to score and duly added the extras with a well placed goal.

The game continued to be ‘nip and tuck’, but just before the break, Philip Cooke increased Honiton’s lead with a try which he scored almost unopposed. Oaten importantly added the conversion that would prove vital when the final whistle was blown!

The second half saw the Cully boys mount a sterling fight back and they scored two tries, but crucially only one of them was converted.

Honiton had to dig deep to hold their lead, something they did with no little skill and bags of effort!

Skipper Foot was quick to praise his side. He said: “The lads did ever so well. It was terrific team effort and the way we held Cully off at the end is testament to the team performance.”
