Honiton and Axe Valley runners do well in popular Sidmouth Festival Run

MEMBERS of Honiton Running Club and Axe Valley Runners were among a good entry of 235 in the Sidmouth Festival Run and Sidmouth Festival Fun Run this year.
MEMBERS of Honiton Running Club and Axe Valley Runners were among a good entry of 235 in the Sidmouth Festival Run and Sidmouth Festival Fun Run this year. Kevin Hawker (Honiton) was the seventh runner to finish, with Luke Reed (Axe Valley) 18th and Bernared Fry (Axe Valley) 28th. Other local runners (with finishing position in brackets) were Vernon Gillard (Honiton - 37); Julian Gigg (H - 38); Richard Hale (AV - 60); Mark Hilder (AV - 63); Ian Walker (AV - 64); Eleanor Wood (AV 66); Emma Kiernan (AV - 71); John Caswell (H - 97); Marion Broon (H - 108); Nicola Gigg (H - 114); Maria Wadey (H - 132); Claire Pomerol (H - 142); Vanessa Glyn Jones (H - 182); and Kim Verner (H - 192).
The Honiton Ladies' team of Marion Broon, Nicola Gigg, Maria Wadey and Claire Pomerol won the Michelmores Cup for the first ladies' team.
John Perratt told the Herald: "Behind the scenes there were a lot of helpers and we are grateful to them for sticking to their tasks in quite trying conditions - especially marking the course on Saturday evening.
"Thanks also go to Michelmores for their sponsorship, and a good sum will have been raised for FORCE, the Exeter Cancer Support Centre."
There was a late rush of entries, one runner pulled out and 17 others decided the weather was against them - fewer than normal.
