ANGLING: The Westward Festival took place on Sunday hosted by Beer and District SAA on the local beaches around the area and two boats were also fishing out from the village of Beer.
The Westward Festival took place on Sunday hosted by Beer and District SAA on the local beaches around the area and two boats were also fishing out from the village of Beer.In all some eight clubs took part in this very long running competition with clubs coming from both the north coast and the south coast of Devon and Somerset.Conditions of the day were not forecast to be too good, but on the morning of the event it was decided to carry the competition through but finishing slightly early to beat the bad weather on its way. A superb bass from the shore for Derek Hansford of 9-13-0 took the best shore fish, other fish caught on the day included garfish, dogfish, mackerel, wrasse, bream and pollack.For the second year running Honiton Sea Angling Club won the silver trophy, scoring some 55 points from the eight fishing zones and this included three zone winners who scored maximum points in their zones. Other points were Sidmouth SAC 38 points, Exmouth 32pts, Watchet and Beer both had 29pts and Budleigh had 14pts.The picture shows Honiton SAC with their award and they are from left, at the back Phil Abrahams, Kim Gibbs, Colin Berry, Barry Codling, Mike Spiller, Stefen Herbert and front, Micky Kane, Archie Pike.
