The club were delighted to hear the news of a success for Carole Binmore who won the English Riviera Open Tournament ladies singles, writes Julie Grant.

She won 21-19 against England junior international squad member Harriet Stevens. Well done, Carole.

Sue Evans has also had singles success, winning her next round of the national champion of champions, beating fellow Walker Cup bowler Hayley James. Sue and Hayley helped Devon to victory over Dorset in the national double rink knock out Walker Cup and they also out bowled Worcestershire in the Johns inter county trophy as Devon won by 74 shots last Saturday.

Honiton club has played a few friendlies lately, narrowly losing in a mixed match against Tiverton Park 91-89. The top Honiton triple was the one of Scott Eveleigh, Thelma Flynn and Barry Singleton (23-7).

The ladies went to Ottery St Mary and won 52-45 with the top triple being the one of Myra Singleton, captain June Lee and Ann Hillyear (17-14).

In the Two Counties League Honiton had a 90-73 win over Tiverton Borough and here the top rink was Alan Fuller, David Tooley, Mike Critchley and Ken Clarke (30 -15).

In the men’s Over-60s Triples League there was less success as the A team lost to Okehampton 37-38 and the C team lost to Pinces 42-28 and also went down 36-25 to Heavitree. There was a successful Honiton triple at Heavitree with a 19-10 victory for Denis Hillyear, Keith Parsons and Peter Goddwin.

Honiton ladies also enjoyed victory on another round of the County Interclub competition, beating Brixham 49-27 and now play Tiverton West End in the quarter-finals.

There was also good news for the men as they won their semi-final of the Section Three Foxlands, beating Sidmouth 40-36 and they now play Madeira in the final.

However, In the county trophy, they lost 84-70 to Madeira.

Also in the nationals they lost in the Top Club to their Exmouth rivals by three disciplines to two, but the loss was a narrow one as the margin in the triples was one of just two and the singles and fours won.

The national two fours against Topsham was again a loss, 51-37,but the men will resolutely bowl on.
