The Honiton men played their fourth match in the Over-60s County Trophy League last week, writes Tony Broughton.
They took on Tiverton’s Mid Devon Club and were beaten overall.
The two home teams won by one and two shots respectively whilst one away team won by a pair of shots and the other went down by 20.
The ladies lost their National Over-60 two rink Mason Trophy against Plymouth Mayflower Club.
The away team, who arrived 30 minutes late due to a horrific accident on the A38 causing a detour through Tavistock, played a magnificent game against a strong four and were always ahead.
With four ends to play a report of a 35-8 loss at home meant at 10 shots up they needed another 17 shots to draw. Losing the next two ends put the match beyond reach and they conceded with 2 to play. It really was another great effort by the team to reach the last 16 in the country.
A friendly match away at Sidmouth ended in the narrowest of wins at 49-48 only one Honiton triple of June Lee, Maureen Parsons and Pearl Hackwood winning at 24-9.
A home match against Dunkeswell resulted in another close win with the margin of victory being two shots.
The top rink in this match was Yvonne Williams, Ron Taylor, Gail Hawke and Anne Newman at 21-10.
The final friendly match of the week was against Ottery St Mary which Honiton lost 62-75. The only winning rink out of four was Di Hawkins, Tony Williams, Carol Armitage and Tony Broughton at 22-16. Once again it is nice to see players that have only started bowling this season are regularly in the Top Rinks.
