Honiton bowlers make excellent beginning to the indoor season.

Honiton bowlers have played three and won three of their mixed friendly matches; a great way to start the winter bowling, writes Julie Grant.

First they were victorious at home against Ottery St Mary 87-57, top rink David Tooley, Di Hawkins, Heather Chambers and Rita Barwick 25-9.

Then they won two away games, at Budleigh 42 -29, top rink again Di Hawkins and Heather Chambers, with Richard Chapple and David Downs 27-12. Finally Honiton beat Exonia 78-42, top rink Yvonne Williams, Doug and Rosemary Hirons and Bernard Tonkin 31-16.

The ladies suffered at the hands of the gents in the two internal contests to start the season. In the so called friendly, the gents won 97-63, top rink of men being David Tooley, Mike Critchley, Gerry Stafrace and Trevor Pipe. The winning ladies were Joan Mackintosh, Daphne Courtney, Berry Maynard and Yvonne Rayner. Trevor also scored the best win in the competitive practice game when the gents won 90-62. His rink were Pete Goodwin, Steve Coles and Malcolm Seaborne. The winning ladies were Berry Maynard, Marian Vessey, Brenda Harris and Carole Binmore.
