Honiton bowlers see winning run ended by Exonia

All good things must come to an end and so it has with a narrow loss for Honiton bowlers against Exonia last weekend, writes Julie Grant.

The Exeter side won the match by a single shot, 64-63. The top Honiton rink, winning 17-11, comprised of Ron Rogers, Fred Dart, Judith Broom and Jimmy Smith.

There was a much better result was in the mixed friendly against Devon Masonic which Honiton won 99-38. Here the top triple was Fred Dart, Brian Braund and Marian Vessey 40-4.

In the ladies county leagues the Lane triples team gained six points against Axminster by winning 72-62. The joint top triples were Di Hawkins, Sharon Kenny and Gail Hawke (23-7) and Myra Singleton, Daphne Courtney and Heather Chambers (25-9).

In the Foxlands rinks league Honiton only managed two points when playing Torquay United, bowling at home were the top rink of Ann Brown, Ann Hillyear, Yvonne Rayner and Julie Grant 22-15.

In the Denny Cup, the men lost to a very tough side from Ilminster. Success did come for the men in the county Charles Parrott when Honiton won 43-30 against Madeira. The top rink from the away leg were Bill Nicholls, Tony Williams, Pete Goodwin and Scott Eveleigh.

In the first to be completed club competition of the indoor season, Yvonne Rayner and Trevor Pipe won the Australian Pairs.
