Well, the weather seems to have relented at last - although, as has been the norm of late, the ladies were rained off for what was the sixth successive occasion, writes Ann Desmoulins.

After weeks of bad weather and the resultant course closures, it was great to be able to play our first Tuesday Mixed of the year last week.

There was a good turnout of 26 players for this monthly drawn greensomes competition, played in dry and mostly sunny weather.

The competition was over 14 holes and the round was completed before the weather took a turn for the worse.

Coming out on top and winning the Centenary Goblets were Vicki Rogers and Bob Barnes with 29 points.

They achieved an eagle on the par five 14th hole, thanks to Bob’s 200-yard shot to the green finding the hole and scoring them four points. Close behind, with 28 points, were Dot Grove and Jason Gosling. Third place was taken by Linda and John Northover with 25 points.

As this was the first Tuesday Mixed competition of the year, an additional presentation was made by club president Max Pipe to Paul Ritchie, who was the winner of the 2017 Golfer of the Year Cup.

The cup is presented to the player who achieves the most prizes throughout the year and it was Paul’s second consecutive year as overall winner.
