In the past week, the Honiton seniors have played matches against Cricket St Thomas and Stover, both at home, and both matches ended in 3-3 draws, writes Ann Desmoulins.

The seniors’ knock-out matches are drawing to a close, with results expected soon.

Following the final round of the summer medal competitions, the winner of the Centenary Salver was determined.

The best four rounds of the six played from April through to September were aggregated, with the result being announced last week by the seniors’ captain John Pawley.

In second and third place with an aggregate of 284 was Derek Keen and Vic Wood, but the overall winner by a decisive 10 shots, with his 274, was Bob Cockett, continuing the trend of London cabbies as winner of the magnificent salver!

This week’s seniors competition was an individual stableford and it featured quite strong winds for the first time for many months.

The winner of Division One was Peter Clarke with 36 points. It was all mighty close, though, and Peter took first place after countback had come into play, with Dave Maggs edged into second place after he also scored 36 points. Third, with 35 points, was seniors’ vice captain Steve Butcher while fourth was Pete Morgan with 34 points.

Division Two was won by Peter Stubbington with an excellent 39 points. Second was Phil Wall with 35, third was Brian Bird with 34 and fourth was seniors’ captain John Pawley with 32.

There were six twos with each one netting seven balls. The players to record twos were Peter Stubbington, Chris Vincent and Alan Devenney on the second, and Jim Wallis, Vic Wood and Peter Clarke on the 10th.

? Honiton ladies held a fun competition on what proved to be an extremely windy, overcast but dry day.

There was little doubt for those taking part – autumn had truly arrived! Ten teams of three ladies played a competition called The Par Counts (with one team having a ‘ghost’ player to make up the numbers).

This is played as a stableford with one score counting on the par fives, two scores on the par fours and all three scores counting on the par threes.

The winners were the team of Catherine Docherty, ladies’ captain Liz Rogers and Lesley Farley with 80 points. The minor places were determined by countback with Elizabeth Ward, Linda Blundell and Vera Richardson taking second and Henrietta Bradshaw, Jane Watts and Jenny Raison taking third after both pairs scored 77. There was no nine-hole competition played on the day.

Last Friday, the second round of the Marker Cup took place (round one had been played the week before), and it took place in very strong gusty winds.

The overall winner was competition secretary Vicki Rogers.
