Honiton Cricket Club are delighted to be continuing their partnership with their main sponsors MKM for the coming year.
MKM’s sponsorship over recent seasons has enabled the club to complete a number of projects crucial to the continuation, development and expansion of cricket in Honiton.
In addition to smart new club playing, training and leisurewear equipment to support up and coming youth cricketers and refurbishment of the club’s kitchen, MKM’s support has assisted the club in constructing and maintaining an enviable state-of-the-art dual lane outdoor net practice facility.
Sponsorship also facilitates activities like ground maintenance and improvement work to the playing area.
Despite the 2020 season being heavily limited by Covid-19 restrictions, the club still managed to play 14 senior games under special social distancing and hand sanitisation regulations, punching above their weight to reach the knock out stages of the reorganised league season.
While the team ultimately went down in the semi-final away to Alphington, the club still managed to attract new players, with Lewis Blackwell bolstering the club’s already impressive arsenal of extreme pace bowlers.
Honiton’s youth teams also had an enjoyable season with many players and families making the most of their time at the club in a difficult year.
2021 sees the continued progression of Honiton’s future stars, with under-12 and under-14 teams being overseen and managed by club stalwarts Pete Matravers, Corey Lapping and Harry Court, and vital contributions from parents.
The coming season sees Kieran Conway taking over as captain of the senior 1st XI league team, with some mouthwatering fixtures on the cards, including the season opener at home to local rivals Ottery St Mary.
Jon Hext remains as 2nd XI skipper and club chairman Andrew Lapping continues in his additional role as non-league manager, with a potentially packed programme of fixtures.
Honiton Cricket Club welcome new junior or senior players and would love to hear from anyone interested in scoring or umpiring. Details of training dates and events will appear on the club Facebook page and the website at www.honiton.play-cricket.com and you can contact them on Facebook, via the contact link on the web page or by coming along to Mountbatten Park, Ottery Moor Lane training session or match day.
