Honiton Golf Club has been celebrating not one, but two holes-in-one.

Dave Carnall struck gold during the annual Devonians versus Foreigners match.

And Linda Northover did the same in the Tuesday Mixed tournament.

The Devonians and Foreigners four-ball match play competition is where sides are chosen by either being born in Devon or not.

17 matches were played with the Devonians being captained by Neil Pullman and Foreigners by Stu Slater.

The first match out saw the Captains take on each other with their respective partners Wayne Broom and Steve Key and it was Devonians taking the first tie but unfortunately it wasn’t to continue and the Foreigners ran away with the victory, 11 1/2pts - 6 1/2 pts.

It was the third match that got the biggest cheer of the day where the Par 3 second saw Nick Doman get a two, but still lose the hole to Dave’s hole in one.

Dave then found himself in an unfamiliar situation as a tee totaller buying a bottle of whiskey so his fellow competitors could help him celebrate.
There was another good turnout for the Tuesday Mixed, with 15 pairs taking part in a Treble 6 format. The complicated World Handicapping System handicap allowances were calculated in advance by the competition organisers to avoid any confusion with the scores.

There was a very wide range of scores but taking first place with an excellent 44 points were Sue Ritchie and Jason Gosling. Second place, with 41 points, went to Hilda Hoepelman and John Craig, closely followed in third by Maureen Tollemache and Max Pipe with 40 points. The highlight of the day was Linda’s hole-in-one on the 2nd hole, which gained her five points and a large bar bill!

In the Dartmoor League, another away defeat leaves Honiton perilously close to relegation. This weeks loss was away at Borringdon, 3 1/2 - 1 1/2 where only Ed Reece and Peter Wainwright came away with a win. The other pair salvaging a half were Captain Julian Netherway and Rich Beard. Honiton have one game left at home to top of the league Wrangaton to stay in Division One.
