The Honiton Golf Club Men’s Circus event was started in 1991 by three Circus members Wayne Piper, Barry Dunn and Phil Wall as a way of raising money for the Children In Need charity, writes Liz Rogers.

Sadly Wayne died in 2001, but it is his Memorial Shield that we compete for and I’m sure that he would be delighted that this competition is still being played, the charity was very close to his heart.

This year we have celebrated 25 years of this event and a full field of 72 people took part.

To celebrate the special occasion all previous winners were invited back to play in a special ‘past winners’ competition.

The winner of this competition was Barry Cross with 35 points.

Barry now plays his golf at Woodbury Park and was the winner in 1996. Paul Borkowski won the main competition with 38 points.

Barry and Phil would like to thank everyone for their participation this year and over the past 25 years and hope that it will still be played for many years to come although they both admitted it would be doubtful if they would still be playing in another 25 years!

This year’s competition raised over £1,250 for Children in Need and the total raised in the 25 years exceeds £40,000.
