Honiton Golf Club would like to pay their respects to Andy Harrison who passed away after a sudden heart attack last Friday evening, writes Andy Wagner.

An enthusiastic, if a little erratic, golfer Andy had made a name for himself by generously and very ably captaining the B Team for a couple of seasons, winning praise from all who played in those matches.

As a consequence his name regularly cropped up with the committee as the type of man who could probably lead the club at some time if he was ready to accept.

Andy loved all sports, starting as a cricketing rugby prop (or so he told me) and Honiton Golf Club’s short lived cricket society will never forget him taking four wickets in four balls (which I christened at the time ‘a Harrison’ in this paper and which still stands today as the term for this exceptional feat).

His name is on the clubhouse boards as a Phillips Cup Match Play winner and he always seemed to keep his handicap at ‘competitive’ proportions despite trying his damnedest to ‘get better!’

Funeral arrangements will be posted on the board, but in his departure his family and the club have lost an enthusiastic member and an all round jolly good bloke.
