Honiton Golf Club Captains have a made a presentation to Devon Free Wheelers (DFW) of just over £4,280 from fundraising activities at the club.

In the picture, L to R, is Dave Cook (DFW), Sarah Loader (current Ladies Captain and representing the outgoing Ladies Captain Vera Richardson), Russel Roe (DFW), Neil Pulman (outgoing Men’s Captain), David Scott (outgoing Senior’s Captain).

It was another cold and windy day for the weekly mixed competition but at least it remained dry until the last of the 24 players were off the course. The American Greensomes format over 14 holes resulted in some very good scores, although it was tough at the top, with all three prizewinning pairs scoring 35 points.

After the countback calculations, it was Sheila Palmer and Keith Crane who took first prize, Barbara Cummings and Bob Grove with second prize, just ahead of Caroline Bond and Paul Ritchie with third prize. As usual, Emma provided everyone with a meal in the clubhouse after the golf.

A total of 15 pairs of ladies took part in a Foursomes Stableford competition, which also incorporated two other qualifying competitions, the Coronation Foursomes and Australian Spoons.

From the top four cards, three returned with a score of 34 points, with the fourth gaining 32 points. On a card countback, first place was awarded to Ann Trayling and Jackie Seager. Second position went to Catherine Williams and Sarah Loader, third place Stephani Barnes and Elizabeth Wood and fourth going to Olwen Eaton and Maureen Lawrence. Ann and Jackie will now qualify to play in the Coronation Foursomes regional finals at Yeovil Golf Club at the end of July.

On Sunday, March 8, 30 players set out for the March integrated Stableford and coming out on top was Brian Morrison with 35 points after a better back nine then Paul Knight who also had 35 and in third Matt Young with 34. Once again, none of the 30 players broke par, just showing how hard the course is playing at the moment. Alan Piper had the only two of the day on the second, winning a dozen balls.
