Honiton Hornets put SOHC IV to the sword

Honiton Hornets recorded their biggest league success in the past decade with an emphatic 12-0 home win over Sidmouth and Ottery (SOHC) fourth team.
Hornets were in terrific form and bossed the contest from first whistle to last.
The scoring was opened by Vanessa Trude who was well placed to slot in a cross across the circle following an interception from a SOHC attempt to clear the ball.
Sophie George doubled the lead before midfielder Amy Phillips brought the ball into the top of the circle and rifled it home for 3-0.
Further goals were scored by Becky Heal and Kat Tucker – the latter netting a superb solo goal – and Hornets led 5-0 at half-time.
The week before Hornets had struggled to pick up their momentum early in the second half - not so this week as they worked hard to ensure they were first to every ball and that their excellent passing game continued to the end of the match.
Hazel Teasdale, Laura Randall, Lizzie Burton, Kathryn Empson, Vicky Morris and Lorrie Ritchie supported the attacking play from defence and midfield to ensure pressure was maintained in SOHC half of the pitch.
This resulted in seven further goals in the second half. The majority of these goals were scored as a result of patient passing play with the team working well together to get the attackers into situations where they could have a strike on goal with each shot followed up in case of deflections.
Kat Tucker scored four further goals with two more for Sophie George and another for Vanessa Trude.
In an outstanding team performance the Player of the Match award went to Kat Tucker. Honiton Hornets are always looking for new players to join our friendly and competitive team. For more details visit www.wcwhl.co.uk for individual contact details.
