Honiton ladies bowled their way into a third area final last week, writes Julie Grant.

This time the success came in the Over-50 triples and so it’s a case of good luck, in the final, to Yvonne Williams, Di Hawkins and Heather Chambers when they play a triple from Torquay United in the next round to get to the national final in Nottingham in April.

The ladies also enjoyed a win in their friendly away at Axminster, scoring 66 shots to 42. There were wins on the two rinks and on the triple; the best, scoring 22-10, was Laraine Carless, Chris Barradell, Margaret Bright and Marian Vessey.

The men were playing at home that day, but lost to Madeira in their friendly triples match, 45-55.

The best triple was David Tooley, Garry Osborne and Barry Randall.

The highlight of the friendly matches though was the mixed game against Ottery St Mary as it was great fun and very enjoyable for both sides.

The score was close with Honiton winning just by 79 shots to 75.

Top rink were Rosemary Hirons, Judith Broom, Lindsey Howell and Barry Randall 20-16.
