Honiton men haven’t started their indoor bowling season with much joy as they lost again to the ladies, going down by 75 shots to 82, writes Julie Grant.

This competitive match took place last Friday evening and actually saw a draw with two winning rinks each, but the ladies scored more heavily with their best rink winning 26 to 11. That top ladies rink was the one of Berry Maynard, Marian Vessey, Ann Hillyear and Gail Hawke.

The men’s best winning rink was the one off Peter Baker, Barrie Singleton, Bill Nicholls and Malcolm Seaborne, 26-16.

Away at Budleigh, Honiton lost a friendly on two rinks 31 shots to 42, best of the losers were Garry Osborne, Barry Adlem, Graham Adlem and Bob Mackintosh, 16-21.

In other mixed friendlies, Honiton won well against Ottery St Mary, 97 shots to 58, top rink Garry Osborne, Di Hawkins, Jimmy Smith and Carole Binmore, 39-10.

In a meeting away at Exonia, Honiton recorded another win, 61 shots to 51, only losing on one rink. Top rink were Lola Summers, Fred Dart, Ruby Veitch and Rita Barwick, 25-11.

At home to Bovey Tracey, Honiton, although losing on two rinks, won the game 81 shots to 68.

Here the top Honiton rink was the one of Marian Baxter, Bob Mackintosh, Ann Hillyear and Chris Maynard, 34-14.
