During the run-up to Christmas, Honiton bowlers have been as busy as ever, writes Ann Brown.

In the Men’s Top Club (a county knockout competition) against South Hams, they were successful in two of the five disciplines. Congratulations, go to Tony Tooley and Trevor Pipe who played the pairs and to Peter Baker, Peter Goodwin, Eddie Sharman and Malcolm Seaborne in the triples. Unfortunately, a loss of two to three overall means the men do not progress to the next stage. Better luck next year!

The ladies’ were more successful in their Lane Trophy (another county competition) against Exonia, winning three of the four rinks and gaining eight out of the 10 points available. The top rink was; Judith Broom, Daphne Courtnay, Elizabeth Fielding and Heather Chambers.

A friendly game against Budleigh was won 60-40 with the top rink being the one of Harry Riley, Ian McKenzie, Margaret Bright and Brenda Harris (30-13).

The biggest accolade though, goes to Liam Crawford who, at the age of 16, has recently been awarded his Devon Indoor County badge. He was in the Devon under-25 double rink squad last year. The club is lucky to have a number of keen and up and coming youngsters who play in a variety of games for the club.
