The weather wreaked havoc with the past weeks Honiton Golf Club schedule, but not everyone was denied their golf, writes Ann Desmoulins.

The Sheelah Creasy team competition is a county-run event for the Bronze Division players from each Devon club throughout the season.

Honiton's team, ably captained by ladies' vice-captain Vera Richardson, won their Division and qualified for the quarter-finals to be played on a neutral course, which, this year, was contested at Holsworthy.

Their opponents on this occasion were local rivals Woodbury. In what turned out to be an epic battle, played in horrendous weather with players, caddies and supporters getting a real drenching, it was Woodbury who took the honours with a 4-3 score line in their favour.

However, the score line certainly does not 'tell the whole story' as the match could have gone either way with two of the games going right to the wire, one ending on the 18th and the other on the 21st hole! Throughout the contest the action was played in the best of spirits - Heroines, one and all!

The Coppers had a bumper turnout for their latest meeting with 18 taking part including lower handicappers willingly passing on their expertise.

The group played a 10-hole three-ball better ball in perfect golfing weather and welcomed a new Academy player to the group, Ian France.

The winners were Marcia Bastin, Neil Price and Paul Ritchie with 28 points whole the runners-up, with 27 points, were Pauline Stone, Richard Dudley and Susan Hyde.
