This year’s golfing year is well underway now that the sun is shining and everything is warming up, writes Ann Desmoulins.

A small amount of drizzle on Tuesday slowed the course down a little for the ladies’ competition on Wednesday.

It was that trickiest of formats - a Foursomes Stableford incorporating the qualifier for the Express and Echo competition held later in the season.

Established partnerships would seem to be more successful than scratch ones. However, the winners confounded everyone as they had not played together before, as far as your correspondent knows.

The club representatives for the Express and Echo finals will be nominated later.

In first place were Danusia White and Jan Portlock with 35 points. Second were Henrietta Bradshaw and Penny Blackburn with 33, their placing confirmed after countback with Tricia Swindell and Chris Luttman then edging into third, on countback, from fourth placed Chris Major and Sheila Palmer. Fifth, with 31 points, were Olwen Eaton and Ann Trayling.
