Honiton ladies net win at Crediton in Over-50s League

After a wet start and two cancelled matches, the Honiton outdoor season started with a mixed friendly away at Ottery St Mary, writes Joan Mackintosh.

Honiton won on all six rinks on their way to an overall 101-73 success. The top rink was the one of R Rogers, D Hawkins and A Hillier, who won 22-12.

In other mixed friendlies, a visit to Phear Park saw three rinks won and one lost, but the overall score was 63-55 in favour of the hosts.

The top Honiton rinks, both winning 17-9, were those of L Howell, B Adlem and K Clarke and also R Richards, L Carless and S Howell.

In the match at Crediton, Honiton won on two rinks, but lost on four and went down 109-79. In this fixture, the top rink, winning 20-10, was the one of L Howell, B Adlem and G Stafrace.

A visit to Seaton saw Honiton win one rink, draw another and lose on two with the overall score being 72-54 in favour of the hosts. In this meeting, the top Honiton rink was the one of D Linley, P Robinson, D Hawkins and H Chambers, who won 21-19.

Last, but not least, in terms of friendly action, a visit to Brixham ended in a 75-56 Honiton success with the top rink here being the one of D Tooley, I Peel, D Hawkins, K Clarke (27-15).

In other news, the Honiton ladies played a friendly at Sidmouth where they enjoyed success on all three rinks and claimed the match honours 54-39. The top rink, winning 22-15, was the one of J Granger, D Hawkins and A Hillyear.

The ladies’ Over-50s were in league action away at Crediton Yellows where they won one rink and lost the other, but took the match honours 36-28.

The top rink was the one of T Lambert, D Hawkins and J Sherwood, who won 22-13.

There was also league action for the men’s Over-60s team, who played away at Exonia B where they shared the rinks score at 1-1, but won overall to bank six points.

There was a visit from touring side Borough of Eye, but because of bad weather, the fixture was moved indoors where the four rinks were shared at 2-2 with the visiting side taking the shot honours 83-61.

In this game, the top rink was the one of D Roberts, L Howell, N Baxter and G Osborn, who won 19-13.
